I thought a spoon helped to symbolize the idea of nurture and motherhood along with the author’s heart wrenching story of her son’s struggle with heroin addiction.

It’s subtle yet so powerfully sobering. One doesn’t even need to read the book to know what it’s about, yet, the more you know the story, the more you understand the cover. The classic understated type treatments are brilliantly placed. The spoon is such a familiar object, but the power of the way it’s used makes you stare at it longer than one should for a common object. This cover would get my attention if I was running past it in the airport minutes from missing my flight. – MK
