Designer Comments

We set out to create an etherial design which conveys the idea of “wandering.” Dandelion seeds float aimlessly on the wind, so they’re featured on a dreamlike/hazy background. The cover was energized by incorporating a die-cut and narrow-cut front that reveals the subhead in a bold sunray design on the first interior page.

Judge Comments

This cover was a sleeper. The simple type decisions, the color palette, the cut-out for the subtitle, and the page 2 reveal, was enough for me to just not be able to leave it out of the winning selections. The design doesn’t hit you over the head, but it’s so sticky that you can’t forget that you picked it up. – MK
