The publisher asked for something playful and quirky that would reach the audience using humor. They wanted to avoid overtly feminine colors and stock photography concepts that are overused on this subject matter. A retro approach felt like a good direction to explore. The illustration of the mama bear with her cub was a perfect place to start. At that point the task was figuring out how the type would balance with the image. The muted color palette lent to the retro feel. I think more vibrant colors combined with the retro styling would have been less sophisticated. I’m very proud of the final cover.
